A hearse caught hearth on a North Ayrshire road yesterday afternoon.

The Scottish Fireplace and Rescue Service had been summoned at 3.50pm to attend the incident which came about in Stevenston.

The car got here to grief in town’s Glencairn Terrace, near the junction with Glencairn Gardens.

Crew members used one hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and contacted police who headed to the scene. It is understood nobody was injured.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “We had been made conscious by the Scottish Fireplace and Rescue Service of a car on hearth on Glencairn Terrace in Stevenson round 4.15pm on Friday, February 19.

“Officers assisted with site visitors administration till the car was recovered.”
