Ms Cherry has publicly clashed with different SNP politicians over reforms to the Gender Recognition Act. 

She has confronted allegations of transphobia, which she strongly denies.

The Edinburgh South West MP instructed the New Statesman she was the goal of “an 18-month marketing campaign of social media lies, smears and foul-mouthed abuse directed at me from quite a lot of primarily younger males throughout the celebration who appear to have an issue with middle-aged lesbians who assist girls’s sex-based rights”.
