QRDI and Milaha are driving innovation within Qatar to reshape the logistics of Qatar by targeting specific innovation challenges.

Milaha invites proposals from Startups, SMEs, and Corporates for technologies that provide Personal Protective Equipment for Harsh Environments with Smart monitoring features. Milaha is looking for innovative solutions which address the increasing need for real-time monitoring of workers’ health and safety, combined with cooling features to improve the workers’ thermal comfort.

Environmental conditions in Qatar can be stressful for outdoor workers, as the daily temperatures can rise to 52°C with 90% humidity. Health&Safety procedures require that work is suspended when conditions become too severe, thus reducing overall productivity. Another risk to workers’ safety is accidental access to restricted areas where machines or operations can be hazardous.

Milaha is concerned about their workers’ health and safety and wants to develop smart protective personal equipment (PPE) to:

• mitigate environmental-related risks, such as dehydration and heat strokes, by real-time monitoring the workers’ vitals to enable recommendations or sudden intervention when needed.
• prevent workers from accessing dangerous restricted areas by real-time localization and geo-fencing. Collected data on workers’ positions would also help automatization of administrative procedures, enabling easier counting of the time spent by a worker on a certain task.
• increase the workers’ thermal comfort using active or passive cooling features. PPE currently in use are Coverall, helmet, and boots.
